DESCENT into DARKNESS
Stage One: Famine
Stage Two: Pestilence
With warmer temperatures comes bugs, rats, and the dreaded plague -spring (normal seasons skipping summer)
Stage Three: War
As the plague dimishes, the peasants revolt (come spring, continue to skip summer)
OTHER RULES:
1. All diseases mean death. Let them die, it’ll be o.k.
2. The location of the fountain of youth is lost -kings may no longer use the elixir
3. Knights may continue being awesome, but nobles have no time for such things.
Monarchs may still wage war against each other or conquer any wayward nobles
4. People need love with all the death about -make time for regular trying for babies. That means everyone!
unfortunately, babies are weak. Roll for survival (even) per baby. For peasants, roll again at toddler and child stages.
5. Gaining equality! Townspeople may access books!
6. Knight’s ‘beast hunt’ quest now always means hunt for supes. Strong townspeople and peasants may also bounty hunt to increase their status. (roll for success/fight with them)
if infected, will most likely commit suicide to avoid turning
7. Increase in military run by the king -strong townspeople may join, and rising serfs.
8. Increase in taxes and decrease in Barons influence means more centralized power: +$$ for the king
Stage One: Famine
- Sudden frost = crop failure and famine -2 winters, or 3?
Stage Two: Pestilence
With warmer temperatures comes bugs, rats, and the dreaded plague -spring (normal seasons skipping summer)
- In heavily populated areas the people are dying in throngs -roll to kill 40% of townspeople, focusing on the young and the old
- Slave living conditions are unsanitary -^^
- Vikings lose 50% – they were even more unsanitary.
- Serfs are overworked and underfed -15%, mostly old people and children
- Vassels and knights take a 10% hit
- Nobles and monarchs are not completely safe -one each household or 5% (cat protection)
- Pets are at risk -all elderly pets die and 30% of vassels cats
Stage Three: War
As the plague dimishes, the peasants revolt (come spring, continue to skip summer)
- Slaves with good relationships with their masters are promoted to serfs
- Serfs receive wages
- Thus vassels pay less to their lords
- Who’re demanded more by the king, who also raises taxes on townspeople
- Vikings stop their raids and build up their own little kingdom England/Norway?
- The church takes a hit, receiving less from the people and losing members to sickness and self-flagellation ~25%
- Supes are immune to disease, but not to weapons (must flee the angry humans)
